Both a self-portrait (measurements taken from my own skull) and an homage to the profound philosophy of memento mori, this work serves as a poignant reminder of our mortality and the ephemeral nature of existence. The old belief amongst philosophers was that the presence of a human skull stood as a daily reminder to reflect on the passage of time and to consider the significance of life in the face of inevitable change. Not a thing of fear or sadness but motivation to live, to think, to create and enjoy our brief spark in the vastness of time and space.
